As I was preparing to leave Italy after studying abroad for the spring semester, I decided to apply for the Fashion Scholarship Fund, a highly respected program that empowers emerging fashion professionals through financial support, mentorship, and invaluable networking opportunities. Over the next nine months, I dedicated myself fully to the project, diving deep into research, slide design, mockups, and mastering new software like InDesign and Adobe Dimension. Each day was filled with constant learning and growth. Working on the project during the summer was challenging enough, but continuing it through the entire semester—especially during finals—raised the difficulty to a whole new level. Despite the challenges, I remained determined, knowing the effort would be worth it in the end.

skims body & home: Fragrance for all.

This case study explores a natural extension of the Skims brand into sustainable body & home fragrance, offering three signature scents—Musky Solace, Fresh Fold, and Fireside Fleece. Designed to resonate with Skims' target consumer, each fragrance embodies comfort, inclusivity, and minimalism, seamlessly aligning with the brand’s aesthetic.

Each line features a candle, perfume, room spray, body oil, and lotion, creating a full sensory experience that extends Skims' signature coziness beyond fashion. From eco-conscious packaging to sustainably sourced ingredients, Skims Body & Home merges luxury, sustainability, and self-care, redefining fragrance as an extension of modern comfort.

THE ASK

Develop an environmentally sustainable merchandising strategy for a brand of your choice.

THE Process

For this case study, I began by conducting extensive research on Skims, its competitors, and the beauty and intimates markets, including the correlation between the two and consumer preferences in fragrances (notes, popular scents, and target market insights). I then designed slides from scratch in InDesign, experimenting with various layouts and continuously refining them until I felt the design was complete. I created mockups in Adobe Dimension and used Illustrator and Photoshop to craft mood boards that visually captured the essence of the fragrances.

THE outcome

The result of my project was a comprehensive proposal for the addition of unisex home and body fragrances to Skims, featuring three distinct scent lines: Fresh Fold, Musky Solace, and Fireside Fleece. Each fragrance was thoughtfully developed to align with Skims' brand identity and appeal to their target audience. The final presentation captured the essence of these scents through detailed research, creative mockups, and mood boards, offering a clear and compelling vision for how these products could seamlessly integrate into Skims' existing portfolio.
