  • Research the competitive swimwear segment to understand the audience's needs and preferences.

  • Design four distinct prints in six colorways for both women's and men's swimwear.

  • Utilize Clo 3D to apply and refine prints on swimwear models, incorporating pattern editing, piping, and binding.

  • Ensure designs are visually appealing, performance-oriented, and versatile across sizes, catering to competitive swimmers.

Research

I began my project with extensive research on WGSN to select an appropriate theme. After reviewing numerous reports, I came across a print/graphic forecast in which “Underwater Fantasy” caught my attention. This particular forecast explores how AI is revolutionizing aquatic visuals into fantastical domains, emphasizing design elements like flowing, jellyfish-like shapes together with mythical and surreal motifs. It also emphasized the incorporation of blur effects to mimic the otherworldly luminescence of the underwater realm.

pattern making

After selecting a theme and gathering reference images, I proceeded to design the motifs for my patterns. Using Illustrator, I hand-drew each motif and then transformed them into repeating patterns. Following this, I incorporated the various colorways into these patterns.

clo

I imported the patterns I created into CLO 3D to apply them to pre-designed swimwear. For the women's swimwear, I applied the pattern across the entire bodice. In contrast, for the men's swimwear, I used the pattern on a portion of the swimsuit and enhanced the design with a topstitch in a matching color.
